BOK BRENDAN IS WEIRDO NUMBER 1

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers was always known to be a person of antics when it came to a one on one interview with the media. He was as well tagged as the master of the art of bizarre interviews.

But then there is a new rival on the block who has risen up to meet with the challenge of being even better then De Villiers. He is none other then former Springbok centre Brendan Venter. He is right now the director of rugby at English club Saracens.

Being requested for an interview not long after his team’s loss to Racing Metro which is a French club level team. He did accept the invitation as given by Sky TV even as interviewer and former Cape Town journalist Martin Gillingham seem all set for a Q&A session with him.

The interview was full of sarcastic comments coming in from Venet’s end. It wasn’t long ago that he was fined a heavy R270000. This was for criticizing a referee while giving an interview itself. So the stage was set along with the eyes and ears of people for they knew they were in for a spicy show. Remaining true to the people’s expectations Venter was on a roll. To just give you a taste of what it went like here is an excerpt from the interview.

Gillingham: “How disappointed are you”? Venter: “Disappointed, very disappointed, very disappointed”. Gillingham: Why didn't you win? Venter: Good question that, very good question. It's important to win, it is. We must try harder, absolutely, yes. Gillingham: Do you think it's a lack of effort? Venter: Lack of effort, lack of effort? I can't think it's a lack of effort. Gillingham: So what is it? Venter: What would it be, let me think. I'm not sure. I'll have to think about that one. Think about it deeply.
